I mention how to book cheap flights in another article but in the city you can use Tuk Tuks. I recommend haggling before getting on one; They usually try to rip off tourists. Tuk Tuks are also good if you are new to the city, they can take you anywhere you ask.
Taxis are another cheap option but unlike Tuk Tuks, they can’t navigate around the terrible traffic in Bangkok. You can haggle before with the taxi drivers too but when they use a taximeter it is really cheap so you can be at ease with them.

There are also busses, which i don’t recommend because of the terrible traffic, and sky train.
Sky Train
Sky train is one of the best ways to get around in the city. There is a site with information of stops and how to buy tickets for sky train, in english: http://www.bts.co.th/en/index.asp. Obviously unaffected by Bangkok’s ever-busy traffic. Plus you can take some good photos of the city.
